Dokken’s DeadFowl Trainers teach gun dogs retrieving manners on land or water. The closest in weight and feel you’ll find to the genuine (recently deceased) article, the trainer body is made of a soft, natural-feeling foam, but the head and feet are hard plastic. When your pup tries to shake the dummy, a few smacks in the snout with the Dead Fowl’s hard head will change his mind. Deadfowl trainers float, too. Made in USA.

Your dog is going to pick it up wrong at least once. The hard plastic head will fix that. One smack in the snout on a shaky delivery and most dogs reconsider their approach pretty fast.
The DeadFowl Trainer is as close to the real thing as a dummy gets. Soft foam body with a hard head and hard feet. Weight and feel are dialed in to match actual birds, which matters when you’re trying to build real retrieving habits instead of bumper habits. It floats. It works on land and water. It’s scent-injectable if you want to layer that in.
Pick the bird your dog is going to hunt and train with that.
